My Teaching Philosophy

Music is the soul’s source of communication. It is what many turn to when there are no words to depict the deep emotions that the human being has the capacity to feel. It speaks for us when we cannot. It heals, unites, and encourages us to continue on, and does so in a way that nothing else can match. This is why I believe that music absolutely must be in schools. Music education reaches students in a way that other subjects cannot in that it not only has the ability to enhance their minds and skills by making them into independent musicians and life-long learners, but it also fulfills them further by enriching their mental and emotional state, and giving them a way to truly communicate and discover themselves at any age. Music also has beneficial effects on our neurological systems that no other art form or subject can have. Music educators must fully understand why music education is so essential, who should be involved in the process of music education, and what role the music itself plays in the classroom in order to truly enrich students through the power of music.
